Terms in plain language. Private sessions are paid before the session and can be rescheduled free with 24 hours' notice. Group fees are billed monthly by EFT over ten months and hold the learner's place for the year; one calendar month's written notice ends the arrangement. Package fees are payable in full on booking. Sibling discount of 10% on a second and subsequent group enrolment. Fees are reviewed once a year in November. No VAT is added — the business is below the VAT registration threshold.
Blocks of six. Six private sessions booked together are R2,400 instead of R2,520, and must be used within four months. Most eisteddfod pieces need four to six sessions from selection to competition-ready, so this is the usual way parents book.

Questions

Before you book.

What age do you take from?

Group classes run from Grade R upward, banded by age so learners work with their peers. Private coaching has no lower limit — I have prepared learners as young as six for their first eisteddfod item, and adults preparing for auditions or professional speaking.

Does my child need experience?

No. The Confidence & Expression group assumes no background at all. If a student is nervous, that is usually the reason to start rather than a reason to wait.

Can drama really be taught online?

For competition preparation, yes. An adjudicator watches a still, framed performance from a fixed distance — which is close to what a camera sees. Recording every session is a real advantage: the learner watches themselves the way the adjudicator did. What online will not give you is a full stage rehearsal with movement across a large space, and I will say so if that is what a piece needs. There is more detail here.

Do you guarantee results at an eisteddfod?

No, and be cautious of anyone who does. What I guarantee is that the piece will be well chosen, correctly timed, properly interpreted and performed to a standard that gives the student the best honest chance on the day.

You adjudicate — is that a conflict of interest?

It is a fair question and I take it seriously. I do not adjudicate any section in which a Fortitudo Studios learner competes, and I declare every coached learner to the organisers in advance. The full policy is published here.

Can we start mid-term?

Yes. Group fees are pro-rated to your start date. Private coaching can start as soon as there is a slot.

Do you teach in Afrikaans?

Yes — English and Afrikaans, including Afrikaans eisteddfod sections and ATKV Redenaars.

What about in-person coaching?

Everything is online for now. That is a deliberate choice, not a limitation: it keeps fees lower, removes travel for both of us, and means I can work with learners anywhere in the country rather than only in Gauteng.
